En la ocasión de la semana de arte de CDMX Local 1 presenta SATURNO, una exhibición de nuevas obras de la artista Leah Dixon.
Saturno es el planeta de oro y asimismo el Dios Romano de la agricultura, vendimia, destrucción, riquezas y guerra. Por siglos en todos los inviernos el culto de Saturno celebraba salvajemente la fiesta de Saturnalia. En el momento que el imperio Romano forzó a sus ciudadanos a convertirse al cristianismo, el culto de Saturno se volteó en contra de ellos mismos. Con esta carga y las nuevas restricciones, ellos reimaginaron Saturnalia como una celebración de conexión, de compartir con todos - porque su Dios Saturno también era el Dios de dar regalos y del tiempo. Saturnalia se convirtió en la Navidad.
Todos estamos acá en la oscuridad, y al mismo tiempo viendo juntos el cielo. Al entender la comunión, entendemos las nuevas mitologías de la fiesta como la unificación que se hará en este cuarto, por este culto.
ACERCA DEL ARTISTA
Leah Dixon (vive y trabaja en NYC y a veces en CDMX) su obra se encuentra en el espacio donde la arquitectura, historias y el cuerpo se cruzan. Exhibiciones recientes incluyen; guadalajara90210 en CDMX, The Austrian Cultural Forum en Berlin, The Knockdown Center y Greene Naftali en New York. Recibio su BFA en Ohio State University, su MFA en The School of Visual Arts, y fue seleccionada en The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Dixon es la directora creativa, curadora, diseñadora y cofundadora de BEVERLY'S - que en la semana de arte tienen una presentación especial en la Feria Material.

On the occasion of Mexico City’s Art Week, Local 1 presents SATURNO, an exhibition of new works by artist Leah Dixon.
Saturn is the golden planet – and the ancient Roman god of Agriculture, Harvest, Destruction, Wealth, and War. For centuries, Saturn's cult celebrated wildly every winter for the feast of Saturnalia. But as the Roman world forced its empire and coerced its citizens to convert to Christianity, Saturn's cult turned towards each other. Burdened, yet sparked by these new constraints, they reimagined Saturnalia as a celebration of connection, and of sharing equally with everyone – for their god Saturn was also the god of Gift-giving and Time. Saturnalia became Christmas.
We are all here in the dark, yet staring together at the sky. To understand communing is to understand that new mythologies of partying as unification will be made in this very room, by this very cult.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Leah Dixon (lives and works in NYC, and often CDMX) makes work in the space where architecture, story, and the body collide. Recent exhibitions include guadalajara90210 in Mexico City, The Austrian Cultural Forum in Berlin, and The Knockdown Center and Greene Naftali in New York. She received her BFA from the Ohio State University, her MFA from The School of Visual Arts, and attended The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Dixon is also the creative director, curator, designer, and co-founder of BEVERLY'S - which is a special presentation at The Material Fair.
